King Arthur Carrousel is now behind scrims as it undergoes an extensive refurbishment at Disneyland. The refurbishment began on January 21st, and is scheduled to be closed through May 21st, reopening to guests on May 22nd.
Our friends at Discover the Magic on Instagram were able to grab a couple of photos of the scrim that now surrounds the carrousel.
As noted above, King Arthur Carrousel has a rich history at Disneyland, dating back to 1955. The carrousel was originally located in Toronto, Canada, but was dismantled and shipped to California to reside at Disneyland.
It has gone through a few different refurbishments over the decades, including a 1975 refurbishment that saw all of the horses painted white to match the traditional color of a noble steed that a knight would ride on after victory.
In 1983, the carrousel was moved to its current location as part of the “New Fantasyland” overhaul. At the same time, “The Sword in the Stone” was added to give children of all ages a chance at freeing the legendary sword.
With less than 200 carrousels in the United States today, Disney has a talented team of artisans carefully refurbishing the iconic piece of Disneyland history.
Well, show us the progress and give pics and quotes from the restoration team. Don’t keep us hanging!
