Florida Governor Talks Disney World Capacity Limitations, Will Remove Restaurant Capacity Limits

In a roundtable discussion today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that he will be lifting restrictions that limit the capacity of restaurants in the state.

When questioned about restrictions in the state, DeSantis said that he’d be lifting state-level capacity limitations on restaurants and actually going a step further to prevent local governments from closing them.

DeSantis pointed to Miami-Dade and Broward counties as an A-B test of the effectiveness of restaurant closures, saying that he doesn’t believe that closing restaurants was effective. DeSantis said that each restaurant would be able to operate at a level that they’re comfortable with.

Beyond the restrictions on restaurant capacities, DeSantis briefly talked about the Disney World theme park capacity limitations. He noted that the capacity limitations put in place via the Disney Park Pass system are “self-imposed” limitations, and that he is “supportive of them going to a greater capacity”, and that he thinks that they should to it.

The statements from Florida Governor Ron DeSantis come in stark contrast to the silence that Disney is fighting on the west coast with California Governor Gavin Newsom. At Disneyland, Disney has been pleading with Newsom to simply give some sort of state guidance on reopening their theme parks, which have been shuttered for more than six months. Just this evening, Disneyland President Ken Potrock once again voiced his displeasure with Newsom.

    1. When will this suicide mission start? We are going to Orlando in less than 2 weeks and IF we are dining inside packed restaurants, we will NOT be happy!!! We are flying to Disney World now BECAUSE of the social distancing, otherwise, I’d say F-K U to Florida!!!

    2. Better stock up on toilet paper, paper towels, etc. Because another wave of dumb is otw. Florida’s governor is a damn fool…

    3. Your plane will be more packed than any restaurant… just sayin. Disney cannot control limitations outside of their own parks/properties.

    4. I originally was supposed to leave on the 28th but canceled because I’m high risk and even with the lower capacity I was concerned. More so concerned with flying but this news makes me know I made the right decision. Good luck with your trip.

    5. Well if you spend you time walking around Disney and not sitting inside a restaurant you should have no problem. You go to the store which is a small place and people walking around some with and some without mask. If Disney would relax the mask to only inside they would get more people . As long as you wash you hands and if you are at high risk then don’t go. You shouldn’t be in a airplane which is the worst place to get sick even with or with out a virus

    6. I have a feeling that Disney won’t go from zero to 60 on this one. They’ll probably increase in baby steps to avoid public relation nightmares.

    7. I’m sure the Floridians can afford a DEPRESSION when 1/2 their state dies from COVID and the tourism stops because out of town visitors will be scared away by Dumbass DeSantos! This MUPPET is coming next week but at this point, for the last time will I set foot in Florida until they get their sh– together!!!! Coronavirus doesn’t give a crap if you believe in science or not, and there’s a reason why the RED STATES are doing so poorly now.

    8. Open everything ditch the masks let’s go America we got this!!! We survive the flu every year.. this is way less worse than that. Look at your data !!!

    9. Steven, this decision by their crackpot governor is because of the election, pure and simple. Neither he nor his masters give a da** about the lives of their supporters, let alone those of us who wear masks and social distance because we want to protect not only our own health but the health of everyone else. Even them, and their children and parents and grandparents.
