Walt Disney World’s AI Search Now Available to Cast Members for Testing

Starting today, Cast Members can test AI-powered search on the Walt Disney World website. The rollout is part of ongoing internal testing and marks another milestone in the project. Back in May, Disney World announced that AI-powered search would be coming to both the My Disney Experience app and the Walt Disney World website. Disney planned a public debut for later this year.

  • AI search has rolled out to Cast Members on the Walt Disney World website today.
  • The rollout is part of a broader, still-private test of the feature.
  • Disney World has not announced a timeline for the public debut.

From Media Preview to Cast Member Preview

BlogMickey.com attended a media preview in May to see early concepts of the AI-powered search coming to the My Disney Experience app. We expect results and user experience to look similar on the Walt Disney World website. At the preview, Disney showed how the update lets guests ask natural language questions. Guests then get instant, summarized answers, similar to AI search experiences found on Google.

In the example Disney showed media in May, the query was “ride in space.” Results included Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Space Mountain, Mission: SPACE, Star Tours, and more. The AI-powered version returned relevant, correct answers with a clear summary. Disney designed the tool to handle both short, specific queries and longer, more conversational ones, reflecting how guests increasingly search across the web. Executives did not expand on the mechanics of the AI system itself, or which services they may or may not be using.

Disney did not share screenshots for publishing, but the company did show screenshots during the panel that resembled results you might find on Google. A short summary follows the name of the attraction, experience, or offering, and Disney noted the concept shown to media remains subject to change.

We confirmed the following month that this same AI search push was coming to the website itself, as we reported in June. That report followed an errant notice referencing an “AI Overview” that had briefly appeared on the site. The results shown at the time were not actually AI-powered. Today’s Cast Member test marks real progress on the feature, following that earlier false start.

Why the Current Search Falls Short

The current My Disney Experience search is, frankly, terrible. It prompts guests to “Ask a Question” in the search bar on the app, but the app really can’t handle complex or even mildly complex queries. The underlying results are far from accurate a large chunk of the time. It’s been one of my most consistent frustrations with the app.

The new AI experience aims to fix that. A summarized, more accurate answer will appear immediately at the top of the search results, with the option to explore further for more detail. According to Disney, the goal is to eliminate the need to cross-reference multiple FAQs or detail pages. That gets guests to an answer in a single step.

When Will AI Search Debut to the Public?

Disney has confirmed the AI-powered search is part of a broader set of app and website improvements. The updates are rolling out over the coming months. Walt Disney World will receive the updates first, with Disneyland following later in the year. Disney has not announced a specific launch date for either the app or the website.

Today’s Cast Member test is another step toward that eventual public debut. We’ll keep watching for updates as AI search moves closer to a public release on the Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app.

Story So Far

  • BlogMickey confirmed AI search was also coming to the Walt Disney World website, clarifying that an errant “AI Overview” notice spotted at the time was not representative of the real feature, as we reported in June.
