How to Purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass (Step-by-Step Guide with Screenshots)

There’s a new era of skip-the-line offerings at Walt Disney World. Starting today, July 24th, Disney Genie+ is retired and Lightning Lane Multi Pass has arrived. Lightning Lane Multi Pass is more than just a name change from the old Disney Genie+ system. There are notable differences such as the ability to pre-select Lightning Lane attraction selections before you arrive. There are also new rules about Park Hopping, redemption events, and more. In this article, we’re going to provide a step-by-step guide on how to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, including a look at the process via screenshots from the My Disney Experience app.

How to Purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass

The first thing you need to understand is when you’re eligible to purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass. Everyone can purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass on the day of their Walt Disney World visit, but you’ll want to take advantage of pre-arrival windows to ensure you get the best selections.

We have a full FAQ article below, breaking down the latest information about eligibility windows based on different ticket types and where you’re staying. In short, if you’re staying at an eligible Walt Disney World hotel, you can make pre-arrival selections up to 7 days before you arrive. Other guests are able to make selections up to 3 days before they arrive. Additional rules apply, so check out our article below!

Ok, with that out of the way, we’re now going to take you through the Lightning Lane Multi Pass purchase process, including a look at attraction selections.

First things first, you have to find the purchase page. Currently, Disney World makes that incredibly easy thanks to a giant card on the homepage (image below, left), or at the top of the Tip Board page (below, right).

Either button will take you to the date selection screen (below, left). You can choose any date (that you’re eligible for) to make a day-of or pre-arrival Lightning Lane Pass purchase. In our case, we are visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 24th, so we select July 24th on the calendar page. The next page we’re taken to is the park and pass type page (below, middle). From there, we can tap on a park that we want to visit, and the app will display the available Lightning Lane Pass options. You can purchase either a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass, or both! We’re going to only tap on the Lightning Lane Multi Pass for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is priced at $26 today (below, right).

Because we’re interested in purchasing the Multi Pass product, which allows you to skip the traditional standby line at multiple attractions and shows, we have to select which attractions or shows we want to secure as part of our purchase. In order to manage demand and ensure that there is decent availability, three of the four Walt Disney World theme parks have attraction tiers. To find out more about Lightning Lane Pass attraction tiers, check out our article below.

Ok, getting back to our pre-arrival, purchase flow selections, we then choose which guests we want to purchase the Lightning Lane Multi Pass for. You can select any and all eligible guests here, just know that you are making attraction selections for all guests under a single purchase. Pricing is obvious and displayed clearly.

Once we have the guests selected, we’re then taken to the attraction selection screen where we can choose one attraction from the top tier and two attractions from the lower tier. We could also choose all three attractions from the lower tier if we wanted. We’re going to select Slinky Dog Dash, Tower of Terror, and Toy Story Mania.

Unfortunately, Slinky Dog Dash was sold out when we initially tried to purchase our Lighting Lane Multi Pass, so the system made me start over with my selections.

I had to go back to the drawing board, so I decided to select Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster instead of Slinky Dog Dash in the hopes that I could modify it at a later time. We’ll talk about modifications of Lightning Lane Passes after you purchase them in a separate article.

With Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster now selected, I continued through to the next page in the purchase flow. Before you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can continue to modify or change your attraction selections, based on availability. The system holds your selections for up to 5 minutes to allow you to tinker with your selections before checking out.

The system will present your current attraction or experience selections (below, left), allowing you to either modify your selections within that 5-minute window or check out. In the middle screenshot below, you can see the modification option. When you click “modify time” below an attraction selection, you will be presented with additional return times. We should note that those return times can disappear quite quickly depending on the demand for an attraction or experience. This morning, times were changing quickly, but it could be a little bit less hectic when you’re purchasing for your trip. Once you’re happy with your selections, click the continue button at the bottom of your screen and the purchase option will appear. Click purchase and you’re all set!

After making your purchase, your upcoming Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections will be presented on your My Disney Experience homepage, or in the “My Day” tab, as pictured below.
