The new Disney Treasure cruise ship has arrived in Florida following a transatlantic journey that began October 30th. Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie were on hand to welcome Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship. Disney has announced that the honorary role of “godparent” of the ship has been given to the 200,000 Cast Members, crew, Imagineers, and employees around the world. Here’s the announcement:
Disney Treasure Arrives Ahead of Maiden Voyage
The Disney Treasure was buzzing with excitement as it pulled into the channel this morning filled with crew members ready to bring the vessel home. After more than 5,000 nautical miles from Eemshaven, Netherlands, and days without land in sight, Port Canaveral was a welcomed view. Crew gathered on the open decks and whistled, cheered and roared with delight as lights appeared in the distance.
Following its initial visit to Florida, the Disney Treasure will sail to New York City for a special christening celebration on the evening of November 19, which will be streamed live.
Disney later revealed that the honorary role of godparent of the Disney Treasure will be held by The Walt Disney Company cast, crew, Imagineers and employees around the world! This is the first time in Disney Cruise Line history that the more than 200,000 magic-makers, who create meaningful lifelong Disney memories for families every day, are being recognized with this important role.
In a longstanding maritime tradition, the ship godparent bestows a special blessing that brings good fortune and safekeeping to the vessel, its crew, and the millions of families who will sail onboard for years to come. The Disney Treasure follows in the footsteps of its sister ship, the Disney Wish, which reimagined this honorary role in 2022 by naming all Make-A-Wish children – including past, present and future recipients – as godchildren.
