About a month after it first debuted, Walt Disney World has removed the AI-powered self checkout stations in the All-Star Sports food court. As we detailed in our December 5th report, Walt Disney World rolled out an AI-powered self checkout station in the End Zone Food Court at Disney’s All-Star Sports. Now, the self checkout station has been removed.
AI-Powered Self Checkout Removed from Walt Disney World Food Court
Previously, there was a single station with two self checkout scanners for guests who wanted to bypass the standard checkout line. The AI-powered system would scan the food on your tray, creating a list of food and drink items for you to pay for.

When it worked, the system was like magic, expediting the checkout process. When it didn’t work, it was frustrating. We only tested the system early on during the first day of operation, so we never got to test if the system was able to learn and improve.
That said, I’m sure Disney was able to learn a lot about the system.
When we visited All-Star Sports earlier today, we found that the system was removed. It was likely removed following the conclusion of the test, but there was some pushback from the Cast Member unions about the use of AI to replace Cast Member jobs.

Walt Disney World did not return requests for comments about the pilot and what’s next for the system.
