Following a flurry of superficial “demolition” in DinoLand USA, we’re still awaiting the arrival of a proper wrecking ball. As you may know, a portion of DinoLand USA is now closed to guests as phase one of the multi-phase project to transform the Dinosaur-themed land into a land themed to the Tropical Americas. The new land will feature an all-new Encanto-themed attraction and a retheme of the DINOSAUR attraction into an Indiana Jones-themed ride. Because the Encanto-themed attraction is being built from scratch, the first portion of DinoLand USA to close is the Dino-Rama section where the new Encanto ride will sit.
Final Permit Approval Pending
While we’ve seen some superficial “demolition” such as the removal of signage and the careful disassembly of the TriceraTop Spin attraction, we still haven’t seen the type of carnage that we’re used to seeing during the site prep phase of a project. It’s possible that Walt Disney World is still awaiting final approval of its all-encompassing permit before it starts knocking things down.
The permit, which we cover in detail below, includes “demo” of site facilities such as the TriceraTop Spin attraction, the Cementosaurus, and other structures within the closed Dino-Rama section of the land. The permit is primarily concerned with groundwater management, and (speculating here) any demolition beyond the superficial would likely end up changing the environment enough to get Disney into trouble without permit approval.
According to information provided to BlogMickey.com from the South Florida Water Management District, the permit review process is complete, but the Management Review process is still ongoing. If the Supervisors and Bureau Chief have no further comments on the permit, it should be issued next week.
Once the permit is fully issued, we should start to see some proper demolition within DinoLand USA as Disney marches toward a 2027 opening date. In the meantime, the DINOSAUR attraction, Restaurantosaurus, and The Boneyard remain open to guests. While Disney has officially announced that DINOSAUR will remain open for the rest of the year, we expect all of the currently open areas to remain open alongside it.
