In the Disney Parks & Experiences – “Wonderful World of Dreams” pavilion at the D23 Expo 2022, attendees will find a scale model of the Te Fiti figure coming to the Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana attraction at EPCOT.

The scale model is 4 feet tall, and the final figure will be around 15-16 feet tall, according to Disney. The model will depict Te Fiti protecting water.

The Walt Disney Imagineering team working on the walk-through attraction worked with the Walt Disney Animation Studios to finalize the size and pose of Te Fiti. Scale models were used throughout the process to develop the color design of the figure, while digital models were created by animators during the production of the Moana film were used to verify the smallest of details.

Walt Disney Imagineers began the process by creating clay models called maquettes. These maquettes were used to study the overall proportions of Te Fiti before a larger model was created. Imagineers referenced the Moana film and used sketches and photographs to study the different ways that the figure could embody the idea of protecting water.

When it is completed at EPCOT, the Te Fiti figure will be comprised of 3,200 individual pieces of scene foliage and it will contain over 180 feet of vines.
