Late last year, Disney announced that they had broken ground on a brand new, 10,400-bed housing project for future Disney College Program participants. Today, we made it out to the mostly-barren Flamingo Crossings site to find that the construction has already gone vertical on the south end of the plot.
For reference, here’s a look at the permit as it fits into a Google Maps aerial view of the construction site. The vertical construction we saw today was likely the second row of structures on the southernmost point of the land.
Here’s the first structure to go vertical on the project as seen from Flamingo Crossings Blvd.
A closer look shows just how massive this project will end up being. First, a look to the north side of the plot. This view probably covers 1/5 of the entire footprint.
Here’s a closer look at the work that has already taken place.
A look to the south shows what is likely going to end up being the last row of structures.
While the land appears to be mostly dirt from the road, a closer look reveals that a lot of the land has already had some utilities work done in preparation for more vertical construction.
The $630 million residential community will open in phases, with the first phase scheduled to open in May 2020.
Cheap labor .. don’t get me wrong .. The amount of DCP applications that will work for this opportunity justifies the cost. Disney just taking advantage of it. It’s hard work but so is life..
