Guests visiting EPCOT today might notice some preparations underway for an overnight freeze warning. Most notably, Disney has drained the World Nature ponds near The Land pavilion. Disney has also covered some flower beds as a result of the freeze warning. Guest Relations Cast Members we spoke with said that the ponds will likely remain drained for some time after the freeze for routine maintenance in the area. This area has been drained multiple times before.

Here’s a look around the area.

  1. Drained because of a one or two night freeze? That is cute. Water has a high heat capacity and will require a lot of cold temps during the day and below freezing at night for that water to ice over. Even the pipes are fine. Those ponds would not ice over during such a short cold weather event. They should have simply said the water was drained for maintenance.
