Continued low crowds at Walt Disney World has lead to unbelievable availability for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance boarding groups this morning. As you may be aware, there are two times during the day when guests can secure a boarding group to ride Rise of the Resistance – 7am and 1pm. Typically, the 7am boarding group distribution window closes in seconds. It is usually so bad that we have previously advised against going to Disney’s Hollywood Studios altogether and we’ve called the Rise of the Resistance boarding group process the worst guest experience at Walt Disney World.

Now, with extremely low crowds at Walt Disney World (due to a variety of factors), Rise of the Resistance boarding groups are easier than ever to obtain. As of publish time, the 7am distribution window for Rise of the Resistance boarding groups is still open more than 2 hours after it typically closes. This is unprecedented in the past year of operation following the COVID-19 shutdowns, and something that we haven’t seen since the early days of Rise of the Resistance operation when Disney was still tinkering with the boarding group distribution process.

It’s unlikely that this type of behavior will continue long into the fall or winter seasons as crowds return. In fact, Rise of the Resistance is one of the few attractions confirmed by Disney to fall under the Lightning Lane Individual Attraction category – effectively making it an attraction that Disney feels will be so popular that guests will be able to buy their way onto the ride should they want to.
