As we continue to keep an eye on Disney Genie+ at the Walt Disney World Resort, we wanted to put together a series of articles containing our Disney Genie+ wishlist – tweaks we’d wish Disney would make to the system to ease guest confusion. No, our articles won’t ask that Disney brings back FastPass or gets rid of Genie+ for good (it’s here to stay), instead, we’ll talk about some of the friction we experience with the system. Today, we want to talk about Genie+ for Annual Passholders.
As Walt Disney World Annual Passholders, we spend quite a bit of time in the parks. That said, the time that we spend in the theme parks is different than how a guest would who might visit once every 3 to 5 years.
While it might make sense for a guest who won’t return for another 3 years to purchase Disney Genie+ every day of their trip to maximize their time at the parks, it often doesn’t make sense for Annual Passholders (especially local Passholders) to purchase Genie+ every time they visit a park. Disney understood that when they rolled out the MaxPass program at Disneyland, and offered a yearly price for MaxPass instead of just a daily price. Annual Passholders who wished to add MaxPass entitlements to their pass could pay $125 per year instead of $20 per day.
As the Disney Genie+ program evolves, our wish is for Disney to add a yearly price for Annual Passholders. With the rollout of the new Annual Pass program at Walt Disney World, Annual Pass Add-On options were also made available. For $99, Annual Passholders can add water park admission to their passes. Also at the $99 price point is the Disney PhotoPass service.
If Disney were to introduce a Disney Genie+ Annual Pass Add-On, we’d expect it to be closer to the $199 price point than the current $99 options, but Disney has not announced any intentions to provide an Annual Pass option for Genie+. As of right now, Annual Passholders who wish to use Genie+ must purchase it on the day of their visit for the full $15 price.
As we head into the new year and lower crowd levels, we might see Disney make further adjustments to the Genie+ offering. Hopefully, one such adjustment is a Genie+ Annual Pass Add-On.

As genie plus is a premium service I don’t think they will ever make it available on an annual cost. It would diminish the value to guests who only go once a year as there would be more people using genie plus. Annual pass holders already save on admission and can do multiple times throughout the year making wait times less relevant. Guests coming and paying a premium for yearly trips need th service to make the most of their trip.
