Mission: SPACE Exterior Refurbishment Enters 19th Month at EPCOT

It’s kind of hard to believe, but the Mission: SPACE exterior refurbishment is entering its 19th month of work since it began all the way back in March 2023. The refurbishment has covered much of the exterior of the Planetary Plaza entrance to the attraction, including the planets and Moon. We stopped by EPCOT recently to find the project still lumbering along, but presumably nearing the finish line.

Mission: SPACE Exterior Refurbishment Continues at EPCOT

The Mission: SPACE exterior refurbishment project has been a wonderful example of spreading a project out over multiple fiscal quarters and years to try and lessen the blow of what is going to end up being an expensive project with no obvious return on investment. The Mars repainting has been a lengthy process. From what we understand, the paint used is not cheap and the work is more complex than repainting the Moon or Jupiter. As a result, the work on Mars alone has been ongoing since April of this year.

We stopped by EPCOT recently to check in on the project, which will hopefully be wrapped up before the 2-year anniversary in March 2025.
