Tsunami Warning Issued for Disney Aulani Resort in Hawaii, Guests Told to Evacuate Lower Floors of Hotel

UPDATE: Disney Aulani has informed guests that the state of Hawaii has downgraded the tsunami warning to a tsunami advisory. Guests are free to leave their sheltered areas. Here’s the updated message.

Following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Russia, Hawaii is under a Tsunami Warning. That includes the Aulani – A Disney Resort and Spa in Ko Olina, Hawai’i. As a result of the Tsunami Warning, guests staying at the resort are being advised to evacuate the first two floors of the resort in anticipation of rising sea levels. Here’s the latest.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a Tsunami Warning for our area. A tsunami means that potentially destructive tidal waves are approaching which could cause damage to the coastal areas of the island of Oahu.

The estimated time of wave arrival for the first wave is at 7:10 p.m. The safest place for your family is floors 3 and above. Guests who are in floors 1 – 2 should move to floor 3 and above. Additional floors could be evacuated as we get additional information.

Guests are advised to continue monitoring the Disney Aulani mobile app and heed warnings from officials and Cast Members.

The first tsunami wave is forecast to reach Hawaii just after 7:15 p.m. local time, which is 1:15 a.m. ET. Destructive tsunami waves are expected, according to Oahu Emergency Management.

Sirens are currently going off on all Hawaii islands as a part of their statewide warning system, 10 minutes after the hour for the next three hours to warn people, according to ABC News.

All shores of the island are at risk because tsunami waves wrap around islands, according to the National Weather Service.
