New aerial photos from friend of the site Bioreconstruct show that Walt Disney World has begun pouring the concrete slab foundation for a new Monsters Inc.-themed roller coaster. We first spotted work on the foundation drilling back in early September, and Disney has been hard at work since then to create the pilings that support the slab foundation. Now, new photos show that a portion of the slab has been poured. Here’s a closer look!
Foundation Poured for Monsters Inc. Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios
An all-new roller coaster will be themed to the door vault scene from the movie, featuring the first-ever suspended coaster at a Disney Park, and the first-ever vertical lift. Guests will board the vehicle before being hoisted into the air (just like in the movie!) to zoom into the door vault.
New aerial photos show that Disney has poured the first section of concrete foundation slab for the new Monsters Inc. roller coaster. There are also dozens and dozens of auger cast piles. These piles are driven deep into the ground and provide a stable, strong foundation for which a significant amount of weight can be placed. In this case, Disney will be installing a roller coaster that will include a unique lift system.
In the photos below, we can see the newly poured foundation as a white or grey slab, surrounded by dozens and dozens of vertical auger cast pilings. Disney will continue to pour the foundation slab over these pilings in the coming weeks.
Back in June, we provided a first look at the massive size, layout, and position of the Monsters Inc. roller coaster building. The building is being constructed in a portion of the Hollywood Studios Cast Member parking lot.
