Disney Canceling Resort Reservations Through Early May

|

Guests who have a Walt Disney World vacation booked through early May have begun to receive emails from Disney noting that their vacation has been canceled. We’re aware of dates through May 2nd, with further closures likely.

In an email to guests, Disney notes that we are in the midst of rapidly changing times, and that the Walt Disney World theme parks and resorts are closed. In the email, guests are given the option to modify or cancel the resort reservation up to their original check-in date. If no action is taken by then, Disney will automatically process a refund.

Disney also makes guests aware of the free dining offer for those who have been impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) closures. For full details on the free dining recovery offer, check out our earlier post.

These cancellations line up with previous statements from the Governor of Florida who at first said that he would be putting a stay at home order in place through May 2nd, but then listed April 30th in the executive order. Either way, April trips are definitely canceled and early May seems to be next. Disney is seemingly targeting a June reopening with June 1st being the earliest that guests can make new reservations for at this time.

When the theme parks reopen, we’ll likely see a multitude of changes in place that will promote the safety of guests and Cast Members. Earlier today, Bob Iger noted that Disney may even implement temperature screenings for guests visiting Walt Disney World.
