According to a filing with the state of Florida, 1136 employees will be laid off at the Swan and Dolphin Resort in November.
In the filing, Marriott called the COVID-19 impact to the travel industry “historic, swift and devastating”. Marriott said that business forecasts show that the challenging business conditions will continue into 2021 and feature historically low occupancy and mounting event cancellations.
The employment terminations are expected to be permanent and go into effect on November 13, 2020.
At the same time, Marriott is building a brand new hotel at the Swan and Dolphin complex on Walt Disney World property called The Swan Reserve. Marriott expects The Swan Reserve to open in Summer 2021.
