If it weren’t for the giant red crane sitting behind the African Outpost, it would be tough to know that Disney World is working on a brand new nighttime spectacular for EPCOT. Guests inside the park don’t get to see the work taking place, but we recently spotted a massive show element taking shape backstage from the Disney Skyliner.

We also saw some “smaller” show elements recently receive LED screens.

Today, we have a new vantage point of the construction thanks to friend of the site, and perpetually airborne Disney fan – @bioreconstruct.

We’ll start with a look at the LED barges. There will be four of these in World Showcase Lagoon, hopefully providing a good view of the show in the theater-in-the-round environment.

As you can see in the photo below, the LED barges will be scattered throughout the lagoon and include lighting elements that are sure to bring World Showcase to life.

Here’s a closer look at the LED screens, of which there will be four scattered around World Showcase Lagoon. You can even see the expanding arm that will shoot lighting into the sky.

Here’s a look at all of the barges as they currently sit backstage. As you can see, not all of the barges have the LED screens installed. This also provides some level of context as to how massive the centerpiece circular barge is.

The circular structure will act as the centerpiece barge for the World Showcase Lagoon fireworks, water, and light show. Here’s a look at the concept art for the show and centerpiece barge.

“Harmonious” will bring to World Showcase Lagoon an innovative toolkit of massive floating set pieces that house a variety of show effects, including custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, colorful lights, lasers, pyrotechnics and more. 

Steven Davison, Creative Executive of Parades & Spectaculars for Disney Parks Live Entertainment refers to the effects of HarmonioUS as “characters” that will come to life via the barges. The collective of the barges is referred to as the “compass”, with the center having a “great gravity screen” that is surrounded by four other barges that have giant LED screens.

The show promises to be a beautifully crafted nighttime dreamscape of Disney music and images, reimagined by diverse cultural musicians and artists from around the world. It’s a transformative experience, where we can discover how Disney music has the power to inspire and unite us all.
