The Disney Skyliner gondola system appears to be having more issues than normal lately. Since it opened in 2019, there has only been one major incident. That incident occurred during the opening week of the new gondola system, and Disney pledged adjustments to training, among other things, to prevent incidents in the future.
While we haven’t seen evacuations of the scale that we did in October 2019, there have been other incidents – including a crash about a month ago.
Now, another malfunction was captured by Instagram user mfridz027 that shows a Doppelmayr employee working on a door that appeared to malfunction.
The employee was seen using a specialized tool to unlock the doors to a yellow Disney Skyliner gondola cabin before manually attempting to open and close them. Eventually, the employee walked away after closing the doors flush.
It’s unclear if any of the cabins crashed into each other in this most recent incident, but it does look like the incident took place at the Disney’s Hollywood Studios station, which was the location of the latest crash.
Of course, the Disney Skyliner is now a critical piece of transportation infrastructure – especially with the rise in charter buses utilized around the resorts as a result of Disney’s struggles to hire enough bus drivers.
