RUMOR: Disney World to Increase Capacity, Implement Reduced Physical Distancing at Shows and Select Attractions This Weekend

According to BlogMickey.com sources, Disney is planning on implementing a reduction in physical distancing for shows and select attractions at Walt Disney World this weekend.

While there have been no changes within the theme parks yet as it relates to taking advantage of the announced reduction in physical distancing requirements, we have learned that plans have been made to increase capacity for theater shows and reduce physical distancing in long attraction queues this weekend.

Shows like the Frozen Sing-Along and A Celebration of Festival of the Lion will increase capacity by reducing space between parties. Attractions with long, winding lines like Tower of Terror or Flight of Passage will reportedly shorten queue spacing to roughly 3ft between parties, and increase loading capacity where possible.

From what we understand, it won’t be a park-wide rollout, but there could be a significant number of attractions that take advantage of the reduction of physical distancing.

Queues like Tower of Terror and Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster have created congestion issues for months as crowds increase, but 6ft distancing rules remain. Here’s a look at two “crossing guard” areas that are constantly in use where attraction lines cross over busy guest walkways that need to be closed periodically.

With shows, many guests find themselves in long lines only to discover that they have to wait for a show cycle or two before their section of the queue makes it inside the theater. Again, these experiences have been necessary as a result of physical distancing requirements, but with those requirements disappearing, it doesn’t make sense to keep spacing longer than needed.

Earlier today, we broke the news that Disney was beginning to change their physical distancing signage to remove the former 6ft distancing rule. It’s likely that we see a similar update in the parks this weekend.
