An investigation into the cause of the “small fire” that prompted an unprecedented response at Magic Kingdom is still ongoing, according to a report from the Orlando Sentinel.
Jon Shirey, president of the Reedy Creek Firefighters Association, told the Sentinel that a call came into the Reedy Creek Fire Department around 6:45pm. Records from the Orange County Sheriff Department show a call for a “fire” was received closer to 6:24pm.
According to the initial call, an electrical fire on a junction box outside of Cinderella Castle was thought to be the cause. Then, firefighters at the scene told Shirley that a firework appeared to have caught a tree on fire.
However, the timing of the call before 6:30pm would have been more than 90 minutes before the first fireworks show of the evening at 8pm. As noted earlier, an investigation is still ongoing.
Disney put out a statement saying that “there was a small fire in Magic Kingdom. The fire was quickly extinguished by fire extinguishers. No one was hurt”.
An unnamed spokesperson for the company later clarified that a Cast Member was transported from the park for non-emergency treatment.
