The main lobby building at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort was a hive of activity when we visited recently, with crews installing construction walls around the main building as a refurbishment project kicks off. As you might remember, construction walls were installed in the lobby to support a refurbishment project. While some of the lobby will be refurbished as part of this work, it looks like the main focus will be updating all of the guest rooms to a Mary Poppins theme like we’ve seen in other buildings at the resort.

On a recent visit, there was a lot of activity outside of the building as crews installed construction walls that extended from Gasparilla Island Grill to the Grand Floridian Cafe area and beyond. If you’re visiting soon, the main lobby and surrounding area will not be the relaxing spot that guests are used to. We expect the work to continue into August based on previous refurbishments, but Disney has not given a timeline for the work.

We’ll start today’s photo update from outside of the main building as we walk around the area to see where the construction walls have been installed and what you can expect.

Inside, a pair of high-reach lifts have been installed behind the construction walls in the lobby. These lifts will allow crews access to the upper floors for the room refurbishment project. We already saw crews taking away beds and furniture from the rooms, although the high-reach lifts were not in action when we stopped by recently.
