Disney CEO: We’ve Been Aware of Epic Universe “For More Than a Decade” and We’ve Been Building Attractions During That Time

Disney CEO Bob Iger was asked about Universal’s Epic Universe and how Disney plans to respond to the new theme park. Iger said that Disney has been aware of Universal’s plans for a new park for more than a decade.

Iger noted how Disney has created a number of attractions, themed lands, and experiences over the past decade, including Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, Pandora – The World of Avatar, Toy Story Land, TRON Lightcycle Run, an expansion at EPCOT, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, and more.

Iger said that Disney was able to stagger the major launches to commercially and operationally optimize the new offerings over time rather than having to do it all at once. Iger says that the offerings launched over the past seven years have been extremely popular with guests.

Iger said that the settlement reached with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District will allow Disney to continue to invest and build at Walt Disney World going forward.

    1. Lol cope more, Iger.

Galaxy’s Edge is a dead mall, the Epcot update is a dead outlet mall, Tron took 7 years to build and is a 45 second long letdown, and outside of that every “new ride” announcement is a reskin: Tiana (Splash), Indiana Jones in Animal Kingdom (Dinosaur), Avatar in Disneyland (Grizzly River), New Autopia (just replacing the engines), etc.

All you’ve done is raise prices, strip charm away from the parks, and jam IP in everywhere without care.

      • Couldn’t agree more. And there’s less parks there now then there were 20 years ago. There used to be water parks all open everyday operating at the same time. Now there are two water parks that are never open on the same day. Their intentionally staggering lines. Even though less people enter the theme parks then 20 years ago… Lines are longer than ever. On purpose.

    2. During this same time, Universal (and SeaWorld and Busch Gardens) have been opening new attractions, too. Velocicoaster, Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, etc). Islands of Adventure has now passed all Disney World parks except Magic Kingdom in attendance. Disney’s new attractions are not doing much in the fight with Universal. Lame answer from Over.
