It’s a new fiscal year at The Walt Disney Company, which means an injection of new money into theme park projects big and small. The money also stretches to the resorts where Walt Disney World is racing to a December 2024 finish line for the Disney Vacation Club Island Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Fiscal Year 2025 money (and the end of a construction project) has resulted in the busiest-ever construction site for the Island Tower. With the project in a variety of different phases, there are a lot of trades on site. Everything from window cleaners for finished guest rooms to concrete pours for additional hardscape, mural painters and pool cleaners are all on site today and we have a look around!
Island Tower Update: Murals, Swimming Pool Filled, and More!
We’ll start with a couple of quality-of-life updates for the resort. First, the main entrance sign has been refreshed and it looks great! While the update will be nice for the grand opening of the Island Tower in a couple of months, it won’t be long-lived. Disney will soon embark on a multi-year project to reroute the roadways around Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort to create a new entrance.
Moving on. Repainting of the exterior of the longhouses and roof work also continues, although we didn’t grab updated photos of those changes. Work continues on the Bora Bora Bungalows too. Again, no photos there because our attention was focused on a busy Island Tower construction site. Before we get to the Island Tower, there is some walkway work taking place right in front of the Presidential Suite along the marina. Thankfully this work shouldn’t take too long. A sliver of walkway is available for guests who need to access the area.
Ok, time to turn our attention to the Island Tower fully. First, here’s an updated look at the building along the horizon as seen from the main Polynesian Village Resort beach.
First, here’s an overview of the Island Tower as seen from a nearby longhouse. We’ll start with a look at the latest concept art, followed by some photos of the 10-story hotel as it sits today.
We’ll take a quick tour of the latest notable work, using some captions below the photos to highlight areas of interest.
Here’s a closer look at the pool area, which includes a gate and hardscape work. The swimming pool has been filled and we saw some cleaning taking place when we visited earlier this morning.
Finally, here’s a look at a work-in-progress mural on the south side of the building. Murals will eventually be found on a number of the exterior walls.
And here’s a look at the mural from onboard the monorail as we pass by the front of the resort. Because of the poor angle of the sun, I won’t subject you to some photos of less-than-ideal quality. Instead, I’ll circle back when the afternoon sun is more favorable sometime soon to take a proper look at the front of the resort.
