Walt Disney World is enacting stricter-than-normal pedestrian access to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, not allowing any outside foot traffic into the resort for New Year’s Eve festivities. Typically, beach viewing areas for the impressive New Year’s Eve fireworks are limited to guests, but this is the first time that we can remember where pedestrian access into the resort grounds in general is limited to resort guests or those with a restaurant reservation.
Pedestrian Restrictions for Polynesian New Year’s Eve
Guests who wish to visit Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort are restricted from entering on foot from the Transportation & Ticket Center and from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort walkway. Disney Security Cast Members are stationed at both checkpoints and only allow guests with reservations to enter the resort.
At this time, we’re told that the only way for guests to enter Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort without a resort or dining reservation is to take the watercraft from the Magic Kingdom and area resorts or to use the monorail system. That access could be restricted at any point.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is a very popular viewing location for Magic Kingdom’s New Year’s Eve fireworks show. Similar viewing restrictions are common for Magic Kingdom’s Fourth of July fireworks as well.
Cast Members at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort say that the stricter foot traffic access rules are new this year due to the newly-opened Island Tower building. Viewing from within the Island Tower building is limited to resort guests (which is standard), and viewing areas from around the Island Tower grounds is open access to guests who are able to find their way into the restricted Polynesian Village Resort grounds.
