Walt Disney World has adjusted the monthly payment structure for its Annual Pass product. The change lowers the required initial down payment, increasing the monthly payment to make up for the difference. There has been no total price changes, which were increased back in October 2024. Here’s a look at the changes:
Walt Disney World Lowers Annual Pass Down Payment
Pass Type (Total Price) | Old Down Payment | New Down Payment | Old Monthly Payment | New Monthly Payment |
---|---|---|---|---|
Pixie Dust Pass ($469) | $205 | $99 | $25 | $34 |
Disney Pirate Pass ($829) | $205 | $99 | $57 | $66 |
Disney Sorcerer Pass ($1,079) | $205 | $99 | $79 | $88 |
Disney Incredi-Pass ($1,549) | $205 | $99 | $121 | $130 |
The change in the required down payment is an interesting one, signaling to us that there may be a weakness in Annual Pass sales. Disney likely has data that says that the previous down payment of $205 was cost-prohibitive for a not insignificant number of guests. If sales of the Annual Pass product were weak, and they wanted to increase sales of the Annual Pass product when the data tells them that the down payment is too high, this is exactly what we’d expect to see them do.
We’ll likely soon see marketing surrounding the change in down payment to something like “a year of Magic for just $99 down”. This could also be purely an optics play. With Disney reportedly concerned about pricing optics, this would be a good way to shift the public perception of the Annual Pass without needing to actually lower the price.
Either way, the end result is a lower down payment requirement to purchase an Annual Pass on a monthly payment plan, but no change in price…yet.
