Construction walls are down at The Emporium gift shop in Magic Kingdom, revealing a new look for the northernmost section of the location. Construction began in mid-January and wrapped up this weekend. We made it out to Magic Kingdom recently to take a look at the work!
New Look for Emporium Gift Shop
The construction not only included a visual refresh but a structural refresh as well. This particular part of the gift shop used to have a central wall that was utilized to display pins, mugs, and more over the years. Another section of the gift shop closer to Casey’s Corner has seen a cash register removed. That said, the display wall made it so that the walkway between the display and the checkout lanes could get a bit crowded during busier times.
In terms of a visual refresh, much of the design is the same, with similar wallpaper and lighting throughout. The big change is a move from a wood floor to a tile floor, changing the feel of the space from warm to cool – introducing more light colors into the area. In the photos below, anything with wood flooring has not been touched yet (but that will change). Here’s a look around!
As the gift shop continues around toward Casey’s Corner, we can see that the new tile has been continued through the space up until the transition to Magic Kingdom’s premier hot dog spot. This room is also where a seldom-used cash register was removed.
In terms of decoration and props, there have been some changes in the Emporium space, but the feel of the photo displays and props remains the same.
As you may have noticed in the background of some of the photos above, construction walls remain in place for a smaller portion of this part of The Emporium. We understand that work will continue in the space as more walls are removed or reduced, and flooring is updated. In fact, if we take another look at the transition between spaces, you can see that Disney has installed a wood-look tile on the “old” half of the room, perhaps showing what that side of the room will look like when the work is completed sometime in the future.
Here’s a look at the existing construction wall.

Oof, not a fan of the tile. The warm wooden feel was the best part!
Cream contemporary-proportioned tiles, and cream painted drywall ceilings as far as you can see. It’s as boring as a brand new apartment. This is not themed, and doesn’t belong in the world’s most popular theme park. If I can find more interesting and flavorful retail environments at my local mall, why would I spend $10k to take my family to WDW?
It looks terrible. Like one of the gift shops outside the park entrance with almost no theme.
I don’t know why Disney is so opposed to keeping theme on Main Street USA; there’s very little left outside of the facades.
