Following last night’s surprise debut of the Disney Starlight nighttime parade at Magic Kingdom, Annual Passholders are facing a rare four-park sellout for theme park reservations. As of publish time, July 19th is completely sold out. While Magic Kingdom is sold out for the 20th through the 22nd, it is very interesting to see that Walt Disney World has locked down Disney Park Pass them park reservations for today.
Theme Park Reservations Completely Sold Out Following Disney Starlight Soft Opening
Yesterday, July 19th was completely wide open. There were no parks sold out. Then, Walt Disney World announced that there would be a soft opening for the Disney Starlight parade on July 18th. Now, today, July 19th, is completely sold out.
While I think that there certainly is a bit of demand from Annual Passholders to visit Magic Kingdom tonight in hopes of another soft opening, there is almost certainly some manipulation by Disney at play as well.
While Walt Disney World has implemented some new (temporary) rules for the Disney Park Pass reservation system that are set to take place tomorrow, there is likely an anticipation from Walt Disney World that many Annual Passholders who have an existing theme park reservation for the 19th will try to make their way over to Magic Kingdom for another possible soft opening performance of Starlight.
By blocking out new theme park reservations for the 19th, Disney can have some amount of control over crowd levels. We asked Disney yesterday if there was a plan to have another Disney Starlight soft opening tonight, July 19th, and we were told that a final decision hadn’t been made yet.
