Scrims & Scaffolding Expand to Front of Haunted Mansion Facade

|

Good morning from Magic Kingdom, where more scrims and scaffolding have arrived in front of the Haunted Mansion attraction. Just a couple of days ago, we speculated that a refresh of the facade was on the way, but perhaps there is more to it than meets the eye! We’ll take a look at the latest work, followed by some speculation as to what could be happening.

Scrims, Scaffolding Expand at Haunted Mansion

As you can see in the photos below, the scrims have expanded to an area in front of the Haunted Mansion facade. We anticipate that the scaffolding will continue to expand to cover the facade. That is, we expect that the scaffolding will expand if the project involves a facade refresh, but the project could be more than that.

Here’s a look at the scaffolding and scrims during our visit to Magic Kingdom earlier this week.

Back to our visit this morning.

While a facade refresh would be the simple explanation, it’s very possible that there is more at play here. While the exact plans remain a secret, I would imagine that there would be an operational need to expand or even relocate the queue for the Haunted Mansion. The queue regularly expands beyond the wrought iron gates and into the streets of Liberty Square. That probably won’t be acceptable once those areas are required for walkways to the Cars-themed Piston Peak National Park under construction nearby.

Additionally, it’s possible that there will be some work required to preserve sightlines around the Haunted Mansion. As we previously covered, land clearing for Villains Land is encroaching on the Haunted Mansion, removing much of the foliage that preserved views from around the attraction. With trees removed, there could be opportunities for the massive show building to come into view. It’s possible that this work is related to facade modifications or expansions to preserve sightlines.
