Analysis: Villains Land Attraction Buildings Grow in Latest Permit Changes

|

|

Following the filing of a new permit, we wanted to go a bit deeper into the changes that we outlined earlier today. It looks like the two biggest buildings actually got bigger, while some of the building shapes have changed. To complete this analysis, we brought the permit into Google Maps to measure the building sizes, and then compared the shape and sizes, to scale.

We’ll start with an overview of the permits, with the January 2026 permit acting as the “before” and the recently filed February 2026 permit as the “after”, or “current”.

Ok, with an overview out of the way, let’s take a closer look at each of the buildings in Villains Land.

Villains Land E-Ticket Dark Ride

We’ll start with the building that many believe will be the E-ticket dark ride. This building has not only changed in terms of its shape, but it has also increased by more than 13% and roughly 11,000 sqft. Here’s a look at the changes, to scale.

Villains Land Building #2

Next up, we’ll visit the Villains Land building in the north/northwest corner of the land. We’re not sure what this building will be, but it’s a big building and getting bigger. It’s possible that it’s related to another attraction, or possibly the rumored table-service dinner show, and/or a quick service, and/or shopping. The building has increased roughly 18% versus last month’s plans. Here’s a look at the changes, to scale.

Villains Land Building #3

Next up is the building in the southwest corner of the land. This building is right next to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The previous permit created a long, skinny building that was roughly 16,000 sqft. The new version of the permit adds some dimensionality to the building, but it does shrink the footprint by roughly 25%.

Villains Land Train Station

The next building we’ll take a look at is a building on the far north side of the land. Many fans believe that this will be a train station given its position along an area that used to be used by the train before construction shut this part of the route down. We’re not 100% sure that this will be a train station, but we’ll refer to it as such for now.

The biggest thing that makes me question if this is a railroad station is the size. It would be the biggest train station at Magic Kingdom, by a long shot. And, it’s growing. Here’s a look at the before/current.

Haunted Mansion Building

The final building we’ll look at for this article is the building located near the Haunted Mansion attraction. We’re not sure what this building will end up being, but it has been more clearly defined in the latest permit. Instead of just being a square, we can see that there is a cutout of sorts.

What Does It All Mean?

Overall, we’ll echo what I said in our earlier article. That is, there are certainly changes, but the general layout remains very similar to last month’s permit filing.

I will also echo something that I wrote when the chatter of Villains Land changing kicked off. I noted that the buildings and layout of the land could be generic, and that “while the building itself may not change much, concepts and the final attraction product could vary wildly from what the initial plans called for”.

I’ll echo one more thing that I wrote earlier this month, “Without any insight as to what the attractions would be (beyond seeing a roller coaster in the concept art), it might be impossible to confirm that plans have changed”.

All that is to say that a building footprint is a building footprint. It’s what fills the building that matters. It’s entirely possible that the footprint of a building can remain substantially the same, while the attraction inside can vary. You have to look no further than any number of attraction reimaginings to know that to be true.

Looking at the main E-ticket dark ride building, 94,000 sqft is a lot of space to create a Maleficent-themed boat ride, a Kuka arm wild chase through a villainous lair, or any number of indoor dark ride concepts. It’s not outside the realm of possibility that plans could have been scrapped for one attraction and replaced by another, without the footprint of the building changing wildly.

Looking at these permits and the permits filed last month, there is not enough of a substantial change to definitively show that plans have changed. Likewise, without knowing the contents of the buildings, we can’t say for sure that plans haven’t changed.

I think that the speculation about this land will continue given how highly-anticipated this addition to Magic Kingdom is. Hopefully, we’ll learn more by the end of the Summer when the 2026 D23 Expo takes place August 14-16 in Anaheim, California.
