Tokyo Disney Resort has taken to social media to share a new aerial photo of the construction of a brand new version of Space Mountain. This has been an immensely interesting project, starting with the construction of the new Space Mountain behind the then-current Space Mountain. The “old” version of Space Mountain eventually closed and was demolished, allowing for an expanded courtyard leading to the new Space Mountain. Here’s the latest.

The new version of Space Mountain, rumored to use the name “Space Mountain: Earthrise“, will open in 2027. The new version of Space Mountain was originally announced back in April 2022. At the time of the announcement, it was also revealed that the then-current version of Space Mountain would remain open until 2024, and that the new Space Mountain would open in 2027.

Tokyo Disney Resort also shared concept art of the new version of Space Mountain, revealing a sleek design and an expanded courtyard. The courtyard was described as a place where the universe and the earth are connected, and the harmony of mankind and nature.

Taking a closer look at the aerial photo, which was taken in January, we can see the massive, sleek show building and ride area. No further details about the ride experience have been officially unveiled yet.

Here’s a closer look at the courtyard area, which is where the old version of Space Mountain once stood. After dark, the area will draw guests into a spectacular world of light and soundscapes.

The old version of Space Mountain closed on July 31, 2024. Disney broke ground on the reimagining back in May 2023, with work mostly taking place in backstage areas behind the attraction. This entirely new Space Mountain attraction will maintain its original concept as an indoor roller coaster, but will have enhanced performance and immersive special effects that will give guests even more thrills on this exciting ride.

Here’s a look back at an aerial photo from Google Earth, showing the demolition of the old Space Mountain while the new Space Mountain was under construction. Google says that this image was captured in November 2024.
