Frontierland Boardwalk Removed from Magic Kingdom Map

Walt Disney World removed the Frontierland boardwalk from the digital map inside My Disney Experience and Disney website. The path no longer appears between the Rivers of America area and Liberty Square, even though most of the boardwalk remains physically open to guests. It’s the clearest signal yet that Disney intends to close the entire boardwalk as Piston Peak National Park construction continues to expand.

Frontierland Boardwalk Removed From Magic Kingdom’s Digital Map

IN THIS ARTICLE:

  • The boardwalk’s disappearance from the digital map, confirmed with before/after comparisons
  • What’s still open on the ground in Frontierland right now
  • How this fits into the broader Piston Peak National Park construction timeline

What Changed on the Map

The boardwalk path runs along the former Rivers of America, across from the Country Bear Musical Jamboree and Frontier Trading Post. It no longer shows up on the My Disney Experience map. Older versions of the map show the full walkway curling along the main walkway, connecting Frontierland to Liberty Square. That path is now gone entirely, replaced by open green space where the boardwalk used to be drawn in.

This isn’t the first time Disney has used the digital map to signal a closure before it happens on the ground. Disney pulled the three Frontierland kiosks from the map weeks before they physically closed earlier this year. That pattern tends to hold: Disney updates the map first, then follows up with construction walls and closures over the following weeks.

This map change does not mean the boardwalk is closed right now. In fact, most of the boardwalk remained open to guests as of our most recent visit to Magic Kingdom. Only the section that closed at the start of June is currently walled off.

What’s Still Open in Frontierland

Guests walking through Frontierland can still use the majority of the boardwalk. Only the first section, the stretch nearest Liberty Square, has closed off so far. That first section closed to guests in early June. Disney opened a new paved walkway in its place after filling in a small stream once informally known as the Little Mississippi.

The rest of the boardwalk, running past Country Bear Musical Jamboree, Prairie Outpost, and Frontier Trading Post, is still walkable. That could change quickly given how the rest of this project has played out. Two of the three Frontierland kiosks from our original rumor have already closed permanently. Westward Ho closed most recently on June 22nd.

The Story So Far

What We Still Don’t Know

Disney has not confirmed a timeline for closing the rest of the boardwalk. It’s still unclear whether the closure will bring a full rebuild or a more modest refresh. We also don’t know whether any of the removed Frontierland kiosks will return once the work is completed in a few years.

Walt Disney World has previously said that a boardwalk feature will be present once Piston Peak National Park is open. Indeed, we can see it on the fun map below, which is the most recent piece of artwork to be released by Disney for the Piston Peak project.
