Trump Administration Considers “Explore America” Tax Credit for Vacations, Including Disney World

At a recent roundtable with tourism industry leaders, President Donald Trump said that his administration is considering a tax credit to get Americans out of their house and enjoying vacations again. The “Explore America” Tax Credit would offer a tax incentive for Americans who travel domestically, which includes Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL and Disneyland in Anaheim, CA.

The Orlando Sentinel said that the details of the plan could have Americans receive up to a $4000 tax credit for spending money at hotels, restaurants, theme parks, and other tourism destinations.

While the government has provided a stimulus check and unemployment payments to many Americans, that money is meant to put food on the table and housing costs. Tourism and travel is a decidedly different category and the U.S. Travel Association, of which Disney is a part of, is currently lobbying congress and President Trump, who was receptive of the idea.

Of course, at this point there is nothing finalized, but the tourism industry is looking to the federal government to provide incentives to the traveling public to help jump start what they believe will be a prolonged downturn in profits.
