Disney World No Longer Allowing Renewals of Platinum Plus Annual Passes

As you may know, Disney World water parks are not open right now, and Disney recently announced that they don’t plan on opening them until March 2021. The topmost Annual Pass tier available at Walt Disney World is the Platinum Plus Annual Pass. This pass not only offers access to all four Disney World theme parks without blockout dates, but also access to Disney’s Oak Trail golf course, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and Disney World Water Parks.

In updated wording explaining the options that affected Annual Passholders will have as a result of the water park closures, Disney has also announced that guests who have a Platinum Plus pass are not able to renew at the same level.

Note: Platinum Plus renewals are not available at this time, but existing Platinum Plus Passholders will have the ability to select from a variety of passes once it’s time for their pass renewal.

Disney is no longer offering the option to renew a Platinum Plus annual pass, but guests who are looking to renew will be able to renew “down” to a Platinum Pass or lower. When we asked about the Platinum Plus annual pass, Cast Members were not sure if the pass will be offered going forward, but that it is not available at this time for new purchases or renewals. Of course, no Annual Passes are available for new purchase at this time as Disney focuses on existing passholders.

The most comparable pass to the Platinum Plus annual pass would be the Platinum Pass, which offers everything that the Platinum Plus offers with the exception of water parks, golf, and access to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

The extended closure of the water parks is likely what caused Disney World to stop allowing the renewal of the Platinum Plus annual pass. We believe that the pass will be available for renewal once the water parks reopen, but that remains to be seen.

    1. What does it matter; Disney has blocked us ( Gold Annual Pass)from entering a park. We purchased the 3 day fl resident pass promo for our Grandchildren. Because of Covid we were able to use 2 days. One last chance to use the 3rd day was possible for the GC day pass but we NOT accepted for entry on that day on a weekend. Remember Fla schools are open & kids only could visit Disney on Weekends. Another example how Disney has thumbed Mickey’s nose at Annual Passholders.

    2. Disney is going to have to mend their fences with annual passholders this year to hang on to many of them. I don’t know why they don’t just renew a free year on top of what everyone already had at the point the parks closed and start it a year out from the day everything returns to normal, just for everyone’s inconvenience. A top park executive told me one day when we were working at the MK entrance that if we opened up the gates one day and let everyone in free, it wouldn’t even begin to put a dent in all that marketing gives away. Free admission doesn’t cost anything to the bottom line, and those who come through the gates always spend money on merch and food making up for it. The good will towards Disney’s most loyal fan base would go a long way. And at the same time if they want to simultaneously give them a chance to lock in the following year at what last years price was, they could add a little $ in the bank now snd make guests feel like they’re getting a deal and gain some guaranteed attendance for the next 2 years! I hope some of the current executives see and consider doing this.

    3. Not to mention., our ap expired in December. We didn’t renew because we weren’t going to memorial day, so much for that. So we rescheduled for August and due to home state quarantine restrictions canceled and added to the back end of our Thanksgiving trip. Now 12 days at disney and no AP. NOT RIGHT……..

    4. And then there are some of us APs who see this as an event no theme park has ever dealt with… and are perfectly happy with what Disney has given us.

    5. I guess but it is still a Disney World AP purchasable at DW, and Springs for that reason. Just figured perhaps it might be worth mentioning, for it has lost even more access/value will they be in the same boat.

    6. So as a Platinum Plus Passholder you are telling me that after all my sacrifice to have this pass and all the money I have spent on hotels, food, merchandise, travel time, and gas expenses. My loyalty and patience isnt worth it. Your looking for a bigger pay day from foreigners and then fleecing and leaving the most loyal customers that keep the lights on even in a pandemic out in the dust. This is just wrong on so many levels. So much for us Teachers and Essential employees. Maybe my money and my time will be better appreciated at Universal Studios or Sea World.

    7. But they still charge me monthly for the Platinum plus and I’ve called a many times to explain how this isn’t right when the “plus” part is not available.

    8. Here’s my thing are they giving the people who’ve have these type of passes money back or are they getting the moths for the water park. Also are all AP holders getting money since as if right now we can’t go park to park when we purchased a pass that should be allowing us to do so on a regular basis. Yes I understand that they are trying to limit people in the park but honestly I don’t think they have done for their AP holders at all the added discounts are nice but in reality not enough

    9. It sounds like the right thing to do. If guests are not able to visit certain places like the water parks then it only seems right not to charge people for the AP that includes those parks. People with those passes would just be upset they are paying for something they cannot use.

    10. My AP Pass expires this week and I know we have 30 days to renew. Now, since I cannot renew online, will the discounted price apply later? The 15% discount is nice. I am a DVC member and live out of state, hence my ability to get the Gold Pass.

    11. I want to know how you can buy a Platinum Plus Annual Pass which contractually grants you entrance into the park any day it’s open, and TAKE MY MONEY for it, and then half way through the contract tell me that I cannot, in fact, go into the park any time, I am BLOCKED, while continuing to take my full amount of money. How is that even legal? How can they block people who have paid in advance, in favor of people who are paying for new tickets? That HAS to be illegal!
