Detailed Look at Complex ‘Harmonious’ Set Pieces Rolling Out to World Showcase Lagoon Soon

As crews put the finishing touches on some of the Harmonious set pieces backstage at EPCOT, we recently took a few photos of what guests can see of the work taking place.

We’ll start out on World Showcase Lagoon, where crews were recently seen out on a work boat.

Stepping back a minute, there will be five total barges – four perimeter LED screen barges, and a massive centerpiece barge. These will be permanently installed onto World Showcase Lagoon. During the day, the impressively complex barges will simply function as fountains. Disney has stated that there will not be any intermittent daytime shows like guests might find at Universal Orlando down the street. Instead, guests will be able to experience static fountains as seen in the concept art below.

Here’s a closer look at the infrastructure currently installed on World Showcase Lagoon to support Harmonious.

Due to ongoing work backstage, guests that know where to look might see these massive barges. Recently, we went to EPCOT and noticed that we could see the massive centerpiece barge peeking out from behind the trees near the China pavilion.

Even though the work appears to be taking place behind China, the work is actually taking place behind the African Outpost section of World Showcase. We recently brought a zoom lens to get a shot of the work taking place through some trees that block most of the views from guests. Here’s a detailed look at the complex set pieces for Harmonious!

Here’s a closer look at the top half of the massive centerpiece barge unit. This will function as a water screen and stands 6-stories tall!

For the next series of photos, we’re looking at the side of one of the four LED screen barges. In the middle, we can see the complex, curving 54′-long arm that is tucked away, but will expand and shoot lights into the light sky.

In the photo below, you can see two sets of gears and the arm curving away from us and out of view onto the far end of the barge.

Here’s a closer look at what appears to be two sets of gears. One will bring the arms into the air and it appears to be sitting on a rotating base.

Crews stand next to the 25′-tall LED screen.

So, how massive are these set pieces? Here are some of the fast facts given by Imagineer Zach Riddley:

    • 6-story tall centerpiece ring structure/water curtain
    • Four double-sided LED walls standing 25′ tall
    • Eight 54′ long moving arms
    • Moving lights, fountains, lasers, and more

Here’s some concept art released by Disney that showcases the configuration of the barges and capability of the show elements.
