A permit filed by Walt Disney Imagineering seems to point to Disney wasting no time in implementing a NBA Experience 2.0 plan. As you might know, the NBA Experience is closed permanently and will not be reopening to guests.
The NBA Experience was open for little more than 200 days before COVID-19 shut down the entire Walt Disney World Resort. Disney either couldn’t or wouldn’t come up with a reopening plan for the experience, and officially announced that it would remain closed on August 16, 2021. Now, a new permit filed with the county by Walt Disney Imagineering could suggest that Disney is putting a plan into action to utilize the space for something new.
The permit, which lists Coastal Steel as the contractor, lists “Structural steel upgrades” as the scope of work, and the work is expected to be completed in less than a year.
Without more information, the scope of work might also cover removing or modifying the decorative steel that has images of basketball players in it. Without a basketball-themed experience available to guests, Disney likely won’t want the building acting as a billboard for a shuttered venue.
