Preliminary Report From National Weather Service Shows Maximum Gust of 45mph at Magic Kingdom During Hurricane Ian

According to a preliminary report from the National Weather Service, their Magic Kingdom station reported a maximum wind gust of 45mph from Hurricane Ian. The gust was recorded at 12:20am this morning, and suggests that wind speeds at Walt Disney World were significantly lower than hurricane speed. However, that doesn’t mean that there isn’t damage at the resorts and theme parks. There is significant flooding reported around Central Florida as the area was battered with rain due to Hurricane Ian.

Crews are going to perform an assessment of the damage today and we anticipate that Disney will make a statement on the findings later today. Social media reports show downed trees and some flooding at the resorts. There is also a lot of debris from trees and other landscaping strewn throughout the resorts. Damage to the building siding was reported at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
