Shades of Green Walkway to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Permanently Closing on May 1

Shades of Green Resort has announced that the walkway to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and, by extension, Magic Kingdom, will be closed permanently beginning May 1, 2023. The walkway is closing due to the ongoing World Drive expansion project that will soon be extending to the area north of Seven Seas Drive, including the Shades of Green Resort area and the walkway that has proven to be quite popular with guests staying at the resort.

Shades of Green Resort has confirmed that when the World Drive expansion project is completed in a few years, the walkway will not return. The Shades of Green Resort has published the following message:

Shades of Green Resort has also confirmed that any guests who had confirmed reservations prior to this announcement (April 4, 2023) and wish to cancel will not be assessed a cancellation fee.

    1. Exciting things happening!!!

We’re closing down a favorite walkway because we’re too cheap to build a walkway over our new road. Isn’t this fun? Don’t you feel like we’ve done something special for you?

    2. I can’t imagine that it would be cost prohibitive to either the folks that operate Shades or Disney to reestablish that crosswalk. Is there another reason for not doing so?

    3. Sure seems convenient for Disney. No crosswalks or bridges to construct and you cut out access to the Polynesian monorail for SoG guests. Perhaps Disney is leveraging this project as a way to keep SoG isolated from DW resorts properties. Feels very territorial and now gives the Mouse a valid service upsale when poaching potential SoG customers.
