The Journey of Water – Inspired by Moana attraction officially opens tomorrow at EPCOT and guests visiting the park are in the dark a bit on how the attraction will operate. During the past few weeks, Disney World has offered affinity group previews and, more recently, general public soft openings. During each of the previews, the attraction implemented a Virtual Queue as crowds demanded. With Passholder previews, a Virtual Queue wasn’t always needed, but in recent days, the Virtual Queue has been utilized at park open.
Now, on the eve of the attraction’s grand opening, there is no information as to how the self-guided walkthrough experience will operate. Disney World has not offered any information as to plans to use a Virtual Queue, so it can be expected that there will be standby offered unless new information becomes available tonight or tomorrow.
Unlike a new roller coaster or dark ride, Journey of Water is essentially a lower-tier offering in terms of how guests might prioritize their day. Rides like Frozen Ever After, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, and Test Track will remain top standby lines, and Disney is still operating a Virtual Queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind some 500+ days after it opened. Journey of Water will likely find popularity due to the newness of the offering, but it should moderate over the coming weeks.
Currently, the Disney World website only lists Virtual Queue information for Journey of Water through today, October 15th. That said, we have to imagine that the Virtual Queue will be on standby should large crowds form for the attraction tomorrow morning or afternoon.
