Disneyland Performers Union Says Recent Cutbacks to Entertainment Are Not Related to Unionization

    Published:

Following a May 18th vote by Disneyland character performers to unionize, Disneyland has announced that they are scaling back on one entertainment offering and ending another. To catch you up to speed, Disneyland changed the temporary Club Pixar offering to remove a DJ and dancers at the start of the week. Now, Disneyland is planning to end the popular Doctor Strange: Mysteries of the Mystic Arts show this month in Avengers Campus.

From the outside, the moves appear to be in reaction to the unionization vote, but Disneyland and the Actors’ Equity Association say that’s not the case. According to Disneyland officials, Disney continually evaluates their entertainment offerings and makes adjustments. The Actors’ Equity Association says that they don’t have any information that would suggest that the cutbacks are due to Cast Member’s decision to unionize.

Actors’ Equity Association says that Disney “often shifts entertainment offerings throughout the parks” and that they “are hopeful that Disney will continue to add new offerings”. The Actors’ Equity Association says that they are looking forward to “working with Disney at the bargaining table to make sure that that magic remains sustainable for Disney, Cast Members and Guests alike”.
