Cleanup Efforts Underway at Walt Disney World Following Wind Damage Due to Hurricane Milton, Theme Parks Remain Closed

Following a windy and rainy night last night as Hurricane Milton swept across the Central Florida region, cleanup efforts are underway at Walt Disney World – mostly due to wind damage. At this time, the Walt Disney World theme parks will remain closed today, October 10th, and possibly reopen tomorrow, October 11th. Walt Disney World has not officially announced a reopening plan for the theme parks yet. That said, cleanup efforts are already underway.

Walt Disney World Damage Following Hurricane Milton

So far, we have not received any reports of major damage at Walt Disney World following Hurricane Milton. Crews have been deployed around Walt Disney World property to clean up mostly wind damage to trees following a blustery evening. Most of the damage appears to be due to strong winds out of the north as the storm passed to the south around 2:30am last night. Some trees have fallen, and a number of trees have lost branches due to high winds. Some signage around property has been knocked over and damaged due to the winds.

Walt Disney World property is generally handling flooding well, with only one reported partial roadway blockage near Magic Kingdom. Crews are on site now to work on the roadway flooding and encourage draining. Most roadways are drivable, although with the theme parks closed, there is nowhere to go and nothing to drive to.

Looking forward, there is no official reopening timeframe for the Walt Disney World theme parks, and Disney World’s latest statement notes that theme park hours on its website and app are not official statements about reopening:

Please note that our theme park and Disney Springs restaurant hours displayed on the Walt Disney World website and My Disney Experience app are based on normal operating hours. They do not reflect changes due to Hurricane Milton.
