Alcohol Will Be Served at ‘The Beak and Barrel’ Pirates of the Caribbean Tavern in Magic Kingdom

Why is the rum gone? It’s a question that we’ll leave to Jack Sparrow as Walt Disney World has confirmed that The Beak and Barrel – the new Pirates of the Caribbean tavern at Magic Kingdom – will have alcoholic beverages. With a description like “tavern” and even “Pirates of the Caribbean”, there should’ve been little doubt that there would be alcohol. What threw this into question is that the location will be the first public bar in Magic Kingdom, a famously “dry” theme park.

Pirates of the Caribbean Debut Magic Kingdom’s First Bar

Of course, the “dry” part of Magic Kingdom went out the window years ago when beer and wine were introduced to select table-service restaurants. The idea was that beer wouldn’t walk around Magic Kingdom, but that the “dry” rules could be bent a bit to allow for a drink or two while seated at a restaurant.

The concept of beer and wine later expanded with alcoholic cocktails at select table-service locations more recently. Liquor was the next frontier for the family-friendly park, and everyone survived. Now, Magic Kingdom is poised to get its first public bar, but don’t expect that the rules will be changing anytime soon.

First, here’s a look at the announcement from Walt Disney World that there will be alcohol at the new Beak and Barrel Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern.

Grab a quick bite and quench your thirst. The menu features tasty options for pirates of all ages—as well as refreshing cocktails for Guests ages 21 and up.

While that confirms that alcohol will be available at The Beak and Barrel, we still don’t know the “rules” that will be in place to keep Magic Kingdom a dry park (assuming that it is still Disney’s goal to keep it “dry”). In order to understand how the pirates might operate their bar, let’s go to a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Over in Disneyland (a “dry” park), guests visiting Oga’s Cantina can order alcoholic beverages. The rule at Disneyland is that alcoholic drinks don’t leave the cantina. We expect that the same rule will apply at The Beak and Barrel. In short, you can consume alcohol while seated at your table or bar, but don’t expect to wander in off the streets of Adventureland and grab a rum to go – the pirates will behave.

One rule that we do know will be in place is a 2-drink maximum per guest. This follows the rules that are in place at Oga’s Cantina at Disneyland, so we’d expect the rest of the rules about no to-go beverages to also transfer over to The Most Magical Place on Earth.

Any exact menu has not yet been revealed, but we bet there will be rum.

“Gee, what else we can do to crap on the grave of Walt Disney (figuratively speaking)? Surely you almost have some new ideas.”
