Walt Disney World has shared a first look at Chewbacca, dressed up for Life Day, within Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. While the photo was taken at Disneyland, Chewbacca will make his first-ever appearance in his Life Day robe at Disney’s Hollywood Studios exclusively during the Disney Jollywood Nights event. Life Day Chewbacca Coming to Disney Jollywood Nights
Visitors may celebrate the Wookiee tradition of Life Day with Chewbacca in his traditional red robe and glowing orb inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, for a limited time during the Disney Jollywood Nights event.
Life Day first appeared in the infamous 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, a made-for-TV variety show that aired only once on CBS. In that special, the Wookiees on Kashyyyk were celebrating Life Day, a holiday centered around family, harmony, and the celebration of life itself.
While the special itself became notorious for its low production quality, Life Day as a concept stuck. Over time, it’s been reimagined and embraced as the Star Wars universe’s version of a winter holiday — think Christmas meets Wookiee culture. Now, Disney Experiences is embracing Life Day by giving guests of Disney Jollywood Nights a chance to meet with Chewbacca in this iconic outfit.
