Walt Disney World Braces for Deep Freeze

While visiting Magic Kingdom this morning, we noticed a number of flowerbeds were covered to protect against a freeze warning that takes effect tonight. Here’s a look at the extensive preparations, starting with the iconic Mickey Mouse floral at the main entrance to the park and continuing through to Cinderella Castle!

Walt Disney World has not issued any operational updates for the cold weather. The National Weather Service advises that people should dress in layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves, if they must go outside.

The Extreme Cold Warning will feature dangerously cold wind chills as low as 8 degrees. Those dangerously cold wind chills could lead to frostbite and hypothermia, even with limited exposure. In addition, a Freeze Warning is in effect, which will likely kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Both the Extreme Cold Warning and Freeze Warning are in effect from the evening of Saturday, January 31st, to the afternoon on Sunday, February 1st.
