Piece of Junk No More? Millennium Falcon Refresh Complete at Hollywood Studios

A multi-week refresh of the scenic paint on the Millennium Falcon has been completed in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy is looking a little less junky these days following the refurbishment. A few weeks ago, we had a first look at the arrival of some scaffolding at the rear of the iconic ship. Now, the scaffolding is gone, and we have a look at the work that was completed during the refurbishment.

Scaffolding removed, some shrubs remain

While this project was not announced by Disney, it appears that the top back of the Millennium Falcon has received either a deep “clean”, a new coat of paint, or a combination of the two.

We’ll start with some ground-level views of the ship before making our way to the second-floor overlook as seen through the windows behind the ship.

Taking a look at the top of the ship, we can see a much cleaner look than in recent years. Now, it’s important that there is supposed to be the look of wear and tear for this ship – it’s been through a lot, after all. That said, there isn’t supposed to be actual wear and tear, which there has been recently.

A great scenic painter will make even the most pristine of items look extremely aged, while still ensuring that the underlying “thing” isn’t actually breaking down or dirty.

The giveaway that there was some hands-on refreshing going on here is the red squares on top of the Millennium Falcon. While those existed prior to the refresh, they were quite faded. Now, they’re more vibrant, while still showing signs of wear and tear thanks to the work of the scenic painters.

Elsewhere, it looks like parts of the top of the ship that used to have dirt, debris, or other accumulation of some sort have been cleaned to the base scenic paint.

The work is the first time that we’ve seen a refresh of the Millennium Falcon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in nearly 7 years, since the August 2019 opening. The Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction will be receiving an update in May when a new mission featuring the Mandalorian and Grogu takes flight on May 22nd.
