Second Heat Advisory In A Row for Walt Disney World

The National Weather Service in Melbourne has issued a Heat Advisory for all of East Central Florida, including the Walt Disney World area, for Friday, June 19. The advisory runs from 11am to 7pm. This marks the second consecutive day a Heat Advisory has been in effect for the Walt Disney World area. The advisory carries a HeatRisk level of Major (Level 3), which the Weather Service notes affects anyone without adequate cooling or hydration.

‘FEELS LIKE’ CLIMBING PAST 105 DEGREES

High temperatures across the advisory area are forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s. Orlando is expected to hit 97 degrees, while heat indices are projected to push past 105 for much of East Central Florida.

The forecast maximum heat index map shows values climbing well above the air temperature near the parks. Orlando is mapped at a 107-degree heat index, with Kissimmee at 109 degrees. Across the advisory area, heat index values are expected to range from 105 to 110 degrees.

AFTERNOON STORMS CARRY SEVERE POTENTIAL

Beyond the heat, the Weather Service has placed all of East Central Florida under a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) Risk for severe thunderstorms today. Shower and storm chances are running medium to high, between 40 and 70 percent, with the highest activity expected along the sea breeze collision.

The window for storms to turn severe falls between 3 PM and 11 PM. The Weather Service notes that the highest chances for afternoon lightning storms exist near the parks, and any storm that develops could become marginally severe. Orlando carries a 50 percent chance of rain for the day.

GUIDANCE FOR GUESTS IN THE PARKS

The Weather Service recommends hydrating before becoming thirsty, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, and seeking air conditioning during the day. Guests are also reminded never to leave children or pets in unattended vehicles.
