PHOTOS – Aerial look at the progress of Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land at Hollywood Studios

We were just sent these aerial images from NearMap, a high-resolution aerial content location provider. The following sets of images were taken on September 19, 2016 and January 24, 2017, respectively. You can click on any image to open it fullscreen.

    Star Wars Land

Star Wars Land, situated to take over the former Streets of America and Lights, Motors, Action! areas. In the photos below we can make out structural outlines and even what appears to be the nearly complete construction of what we assume to be a backstage building.

Before and After slider of the progress. Please be patient, these take a bit of time to load.

The building that has been constructed sits on the left side of the image and has a green roof.

Here’s a closer look at the foundation of what we have been told will be the Battle Escape ride. For reference on where this is, the dark brown dirt seen on the right of the image is where the Premier Theater was located.

Here’s a mockup of the area to illustrate where everything is.

    Toy Story Land

Toy Story Land will be located behind the current Toy Story Midway Mania show building and partly sits on land that used to be the Backlot Tour.

In the above photos we can see progress on what will eventually be the Alien Swirling Saucers attraction in the lower middle of the photos as well as progress on the Slinky Dog Coaster storage barn.

Here’s an overlay of the area and the progress we can see so far. Yes, they’re called the Alien Swirling Saucers, not “Spinning” saucers.

Finally, let’s take a look at the entire area and where everything is.

We took a little bit extra time and tried an extra credit mockup to help you get your bearings with regards to an overview of where everything is going and what used to be next to it.

As far as the finished product, Disney has put out some concept art.

    Star Wars Land

    Toy Story Land

Of course, their concept art makes it a bit tough to see how the two lands fit together. Martin Smith has put together this great drawing showing how we can expect the two lands to sit once construction is complete.

Disney CEO Bob Iger told shareholders that Star Wars Land will open in 2019 both at Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. We expect Toy Story Land to open in 2018.

    1. Has there been any official info on Star Tours/Muppets Courtyard? Like, is there going to be a direct bridge from Star Tours to Star Warsland to ensure thematic/visual continuity, or is it just going to be Star Tours – Muppets – Star Wars

    2. There is more recent imagery from Nearmap of H. Studios. I would love it if you could show it! I tried contacting them but didnt have success. Thanks for your excellent work.
