VIDEO, PHOTOS: Politically Correct “Redhead” Scene Debuts in Pirates of the Caribbean at Magic Kingdom

After a 3 week long refurbishment, Pirates of the Caribbean is back open at Magic Kingdom. The refurbishment was to allow for a scene change from the iconic “We wants the Redhead” auction to a more politically correct version. In the updated version, the Redhead is now a pirate herself, assisting in an auction of stolen goods.

The decision to change the scene was politically motivated, at least partially. Kathy Magnum, Senior Vice President at Walt Disney Imagineering, said “last November, for the first time, we had a woman who was a viable candidate for the president of this country. I hate to say times are changing, but there’s an advancement in pop culture and society, and the timing felt right.”

For a look back at the scene as originally intended, here’s our farewell post.
