Expanded Bag Check Construction Update at International Gateway in Epcot

We made it out to Epcot recently to take a look at what is believed to be an expanded bag check area coming to International Gateway. You might remember that the previous configuration of International Gateway only had a couple of bag check tables/metal detectors. With the Disney Skyliner opening next month, there will be an influx of guests utilizing the International Gateway entrance to Epcot that didn’t previously use this entrance. The mass of new guests includes guests from Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach Resort, and, eventually, Disney’s Riviera Resort. While the Disney Skyliner gondola system will be able to handle the thousands of new guests, the old bag check area would have been overwhelmed.

Disney has since demolished the old bag check area as well as the ticket booths that use to sit within the boundaries of the construction site. Here’s a look at the new concrete pour as well as what looks like work on the foundations of the new bag check structure.

While the Disney Skyliner station looks to be coming along nicely next door, the new bag check area will need to see some good progress to make the September 30th opening date. Thankfully, a bag check area isn’t a terribly complicated build, and we don’t anticipate it being nearly as complex as the new bag check we saw just wrap up over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Keep checking back with us here at BlogMickey.com as we continue to cover the working taking place at International Gateway and much more from around Epcot as the park transforms in the coming years.
