Hong Kong Disneyland Now Closed for a Third Time Due to COVID-19

Disney has announced that Hong Kong Disneyland is, once again, closed due to rising COVID-19 cases in the country.

In what local media is calling a “fourth wave” of the virus, the Hong Kong government is returning to a series of restrictions to try and keep the COVID-19 cases low in the country. Closing Hong Kong Disneyland is one of the preventative measures now in place.

Hong Kong reported 76 new cases on Monday, and 115 new cases on Sunday. While this is just a fraction of the cases seen in other locations where Disney theme parks are operating such as Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, it represents a 7-10x increase in new cases compared to the recent averages in Hong Kong.

Disney released the following statement about the closure:

As required by the government and in line with preventative efforts taking place across Hong Kong, Hong Kong Disneyland park will temporarily close beginning December 2. We are in close contact with health authorities and the government about the situation and will announce a reopening date once they determine it is advisable.

As of publish time, the following Disney resorts are currently closed:

    • Hong Kong Disneyland
    • Disneyland Paris
    • Disneyland (California)
